A Long Tail Pro Review – Is it a Waste of Money?

For a website to succeed, it must focus on providing high-quality content to its visitors. When you rank well in search engines, you are bringing visitors to your site. While paid ads can bring targeted traffic, the high cost of paid advertising means that most business owners go for the lower-cost alternative of natural search engine optimization (SEO). Organic SEO is a lot cheaper because it attracts organic visitors to your site who are interested in your products or services, without you having to pay for each visit.

There is a lot more to keyword research than just searching Google Trends to see what terms are searched for the most. When searching for a seed keyword, you should find relevant seed keywords, determine how many others are competing and make an informed decision on whether you’ll be able to rank well for the seed keyword.

Keyword research can be done manually, but it takes a lot of time. The part that’s even more difficult, is knowing how to analyze your competition. For me, the biggest challenge was analyzing the competition incorrectly, and therefore failing to get my content to rank.

This is where a keyword research tool, like Long Tail Pro comes in handy, to find those profitable keywords.

Long Tail Pro Review

As a solution, it helps you find keywords that are in line with your SEO efforts. It enables you to find relevant keywords that can be targeted to improve your page and website rankings.

You can use Long Tail Pro to find thousands of seed keywords. If you have done a previous search for keywords, you can manually analyze them with Long Tail Pro. It also helps you discover new keywords. You can even compare your own sites to your competitors to see what keywords they rank for.

Long Tail Pro uses data from Majestic and Google Adwords to help you determine which keywords to bid on, which keywords to purchase, and how much to spend on bids. It helps you understand what keywords perform best, which keywords you should bid on, and how much you should bid.

Even if Pay-per-Click (using ads) is not your strategy, the logic is that the more a keyword costs, the higher the competition is. Thus, you want to be targeting the cheaper (lower competition) to stand the best chance to rank and rank faster.

KC (keyword competitiveness) scores are represented as single number that ranges between 1 and 100. This metric evaluates how difficult it would be to rank for a keyword that will be on Page 1 of Google.

When looking for a keyword with low competition, I found KC score useful because it gave me an idea of how difficult it would be to rank for that keyword.

I started clicking on individual keywords to learn about them, and I started noticing the most prominent websites in the SERPs. The Long Tail Pro program helped me discover the kinds of sites that were most popular and those that were ranking higher than me. I was able to see what kinds of strategies they used to achieve their success.

Why is Focusing on Long Tail Keywords Important?

When we say, “Long Tail Keywords”, this means that keywords contain 3 or more words. These keywords are less competitive (and more relevant) than using just one or two words.

By using long tail keywords, you can improve your SEO and gain more exposure on the search engines. You can also target and attract visitors that are more relevant to what you are informing on or want to sell.

As an example, let’s say you have an ecommerce store that sells shoes. Targeting a generic term like “shoes” or even “running shoes” will have way too much competition. If, however you were going for “wide double cushioned hiking shoes” will bring you closer to your target audience and another plus is it will have less competition.

How to use Long Tail Pro to Research Keywords

Review your Results and Filter them

Once you know what keywords you want to rank for, you can quickly find out which ones have the least competition. It’s easy to tell which keywords have low competition using the Average KC metric. Anything 29 and under is low competition.

With an advanced filter, you can target specific terms, search volumes, or keywords in the title and description. You can create these filters and apply them to multiple projects without having to recreate them.

Analyze your Competition

If you’re a marketer, it’s important to look at your competitors’ keywords to see what keywords they’re ranking for and how high they’re ranking for them.

The most important things you should be taking note of are:

  • The Trust Flow shows how trustworthy the content on a particular URL is.
  • The Citation Flow represents the quality of the backlinks that point to a particular URL.
  • External Backlinks represent the number of other sites that link to a particular URL.
  • Site Age refers to the number of years that a site has been online.
  • Page KC is an algorithm used by Google to determine how important a page is.

As shown in the screenshot below, keywords such as Long Tail and Long Tail Pro Review are all rated 27, meaning there is a relatively low amount of competition for them. This means you can get to the top of Google for these terms with a little bit of effort.

The Features that Stand Out to me

As you will see in this Long Tail Pro review, Keyword Research is definitely a lot easier when you use Long Tail Pro. It has some features that make it stand out among its competitors.

Keyword Competitiveness (KC) Score

The KC (keyword competitiveness) score helps determine if a keyword is a good investment. A keyword with a low KC score indicates that the keyword is easy to rank for. Keywords with a higher KC score are more difficult to rank for. For example, a KC score of 30 or below indicates that a keyword is not very competitive, whereas keywords with a score above 40 are very competitive.

What I love about the KC score is that I don’t have to waste my time trying to rank for keywords that I probably don’t have a change to rank for anyway. Especially on a site that has a low Domain Authority, trying to compete for higher competition keywords is at best an uphill battle.

With the ever-changing Google ranking factors, Long Tail Pro constantly improves the algorithm to better reflect the current situation.

SERP Analysis

The SEO game has changed. Gone are the days of getting ranked for your keywords in a day or two with just a few pages on your site.

Now, you’re competing against millions of other sites to rank in Google’s SERPs (search engine results page). What can you do? This is where Long Tail Pro comes in.

It will help you find all those long tail keywords that aren’t so competitive but still have enough searches to make them worth pursuing.

Track your Rankings

Search engine optimization is never guaranteed, so you should continue monitoring the keywords that you target to make sure they are performing in the search results.

I often use the Rank Tracker to help me determine which keywords are performing the best and which ones I should focus on. I use this tool to keep track of the domains I’m tracking for different countries, which will allow me to be more informed about my strategy for a particular country. I can add as many domains as I want to each plan, but there are limits on the number of keywords that each plan can track.

Impressive Training Material

Search engine optimization (SEO) requires a good understanding of keywords and how they relate to your site and audience. It’s also important to make sure you are using the right strategies.

If you want to learn more about search engine optimization, Long Tail Pro has a free online course that teaches beginner level SEO topics. Here, you’ll learn the basics of identifying seed keywords, as well as how to compete against existing competitors. Also included is information about optimizing content for organic search.

Really Easy to Use

I really love the simple concept of Long Tail Pro. It’s cloud based, and as such, is very fast and easy to use. The interface is clean and clear, allowing you to navigate around the system without any difficulty. Long Tail Pro isn’t trying to do everything. Instead, it was designed to help you find keywords, rank your pages, analyze backlinks, and ultimately save you time—and that is exactly what it does.

Although there are other features (SERP and Backlink Analysis and the ability to Track Rankings) at its core it is still a Keyword Research tool. And in my opinion, as you can see in this Long Tail Pro review, does it really well.

What are the things Lacking?

While the software is generally good, it does come with some downsides. Below are a few things to consider before purchasing.

A Limit to the Amount of Keywords you can Search Daily

The thing I dislike most is that you can only search for 25 Keywords at a time. When you have been searching, and you have reached your daily limit, you won’t be able to do any more searches until the next day. I understand that this limitation will cost them money because they must pay per keyword for these requests, but they could easily allow me to keep searching until I am satisfied with my results.

That’s just me whinging, and many may find the amount adequate 😊

I would love to see Google increase its monthly search cap to 500 searches per day. If you are only conducting small batch searches, you might not be bothered by the current limitations. However, if you are like me and want to conduct all your searches at once, you might be ready to spend the night in front of your computer like an addict.

No Trending Indicators for Search Volumes

Although it isn’t a deal breaker, it would be useful if Long Tail Pro could provide some indication of keyword trends. This would help you understand the popularity of certain keywords during the year.

Such data could be especially helpful when setting seasonal goals. For example, “air conditioning” may get most of its traffic in the summer months. You could also expect increased volume for a keyword like “headphones” around Black Friday.

Using this information, you can develop a sound SEO strategy.

Long Tail Pro for Searching Keywords

Long Tail Pro is only good for Searching Keywords

Long Tail Pro is a great tool for finding long tail keywords. It has some additional features, but there are tools out there that solves other things, like back link analysis better.

If you only plan to conduct keyword research, Long Tail Pro is a great tool. However, if you plan to be spending extra money on software each month anyway, it may be worth looking into alternatives that provide more comprehensive SEO features.

Is this the Right Tool for You?

Based on all the things discussed in this Long Tail Pro review, I’m sure you agree that Long Tail Pro is one of the best keyword research tools for online content marketers who want to find profitable keywords and make money.

It can save you hours of time by letting you find keywords that are good matches for your content, and it also helps you see how competitive a given topic is.

The software is simple to use and offers plenty. The training videos were very helpful for anyone starting out or wanting to learn more about keyword research.

The biggest downside I can think of is the limit they have on daily searches. Having to wait a whole day until you can search again can be frustrating with a large project.

Looking at the cost, it is a bit pricey, but the advantage it gives certainly outweighs the cost.

How important is keyword research for bloggers?

Keyword research is a vital part of any blog post. If you don’t know what words your readers are searching, how can you possibly provide them with the content they desire?
Even if that’s not exactly what they’re looking for, it’s important to write about topics that people will be interested in.

What are long tail keywords?

Regardless of what you’re selling, it’s important to know the long tail keywords that are related. These are typically more specific words or phrases that people might type into search engines like Google.

It can be hard to come up with these on your own, but thankfully there are tools out there (like you’ve seen in this long tail pro review) to help you figure out this information! For example, if I want to know what long tail keywords relate to “sales,” I would input my keyword and click on the “keyword ideas” tab- voila!

A list of applicable words popped up for me including “best time for sales,” “how do businesses attract customers during a sale,” and much more.

As someone who is selling something online (and relying on SEO), knowing these terms will help me formulate posts and sales copy.

What is keyword competitiveness?

Keyword competitiveness (KC) is a measure of how difficult it would be to rank your page for a specific keyword.

In essence, the more people (especially good articles) are competing for a keyword.

It’s important to note that the higher the number, the more competitive it will be to rank for that keyword.

What is a seed keyword?

What does “seed keyword” mean in keyword research? It’s the word that you type into a search engine to find information about your subject. For example, if I want to do some research on organic food, I would type “organic food” into Google and see what pops up.

The seed keywords are usually words or phrases that are most relevant to your topic, but it can vary depending on what exactly you’re looking for.

What is average keywords competitiveness?

The average keyword competitiveness is a measurement of how difficult it will be to rank for certain keywords. I’ve found that the best blogs are written with this in mind, by writing content that is specific and targeted.
The more targeted your posts are, the less competition you have for ranking for those particular terms.

  1. Hi,

This is another keywords research tool that I must get more information on in order to learn more. I sometimes get confused about high quality content. I know that we need to write content that must help people find answer to their problems. According to you, what do you mean by high quality content?

    Thank you.

    • Writing content can serve many purposes. It can inform your reader or it can offer them a different perspective or…

For me, quality content is anticipating what your reader(s) will be looking for (intent) and providing that. High quality is when you couple that with delivering it in a way that will keep them engaged. With other words they actually want to read / watch / explore the information you are offering – in the way you are offering it.

Hope that helps, and please let me know if it is still unclear.
